2 Part Series on Sexual Harassment in Academia
The Carolina Seminar Series, The Carolina Women’s Center and WISDOM (Women in Science Deserve Opportunities and Mentoring) hosted a 2 Part Series on Sexual Harassment in Academia.
For Part 1, a webinar, Dr. Karen Kelsky shared what she learned from conducting the Sexual Harassment in the Academy Survey, including thoughts on the range and scope of sexual harassment in the academic setting, patterns of predation, options for survivors, recommendations to institutions, and particular vulnerabilities of women of color and of queer and transgender women.
Part 2 was a workshop geared towards faculty of all genders and ranks. Through interactive discussion and activities led by campus and community facilitators, the workshop addressed the continuum of harassment, how bystanders can intervene effectively, and UNC resources and reporting options around sexual discrimination and harassment.
